One month down!

One Month. What a time! I have officially been in New York for one month! So much has happened. A few weeks ago I decided to get a second part time job. On Saturday I had my first official shift (I had a trial shift previously) at Seed + Mill in Chelsea Market. If you have never tried halva, next time you get the chance you should! It is such a yummy desert that is made from sesame seeds and sugar! Working in Chelsea Market is an  awesome experience because not only do I work with people from all over the world, but I also get to serve customers from all over!

Of course, I am still working at Marc Jacobs as well. This past week we were preparing our Resort 2018 collection and obtaining samples and sew by samples from factories in midtown. Here is the flow of how it goes; pattern maker creates pattern>pattern is sew in a similar fabric with all finishes and notions (this is a "sew by" sample)>this sample is taken to a production facility in Midtown with other paperwork (interns take these)>The factories sew a sample that is similar to one we would get from an overseas factory (anything with a yield under 300 is made in the US)>These samples then come back to Marc Jacobs (interns retrieve them).

This process is fulfilled for about 40-50 garments. All of these garments get fitted and corrected and the samples then are photographed and sent to the showroom. From there we work with production to get samples for the production of the garment to be sold in the RTW collection. On Friday I really got to see the craziness of this time of year. I worked from 9AM-8PM. They provided us with dinner and I got to learn so much that I probably would not have had the chance to do otherwise!

In all the time between working I did some exploring and got to see Kyle, Alejandra, and Antonela who were visiting from California! Kyle and I got to go for a run one morning and they were so kind to take me along on some of their fun dinners! It was amazing to get to see family! I also found a beautiful church in the flatiron district that I fell in love with! The beautiful architecture and welcoming community made me feel a little more comfortable in the big city!

One last thing, I am going to be so sad at the end of the summer when I no longer have access to vegan cupcakes, cinnamon rolls, and sandwiches! I have become so used to going on a long walk and getting a treat with friends from ISU. I have also gotten accustomed to shopping at Trader Joes. If you have not tried their herb popcorn, holy toledo you should!

1 month down, 2 more to go!
